Creative ways to raise money for troubled school districts are a way of life in this economic climate. Lucas Wieser, pictured above, was enthusiastic in his support of the events held this year on the Coastside. He said, “This is a fun event. It helps my school, and I get to eat really good food!”
In June of this year, Crab Landing announced its “Dining with the District” campaign, a community-wide effort designed to raise funds for the Cabrillo Education Foundation, a charitable organization providing direct funding to the Cabrillo Unified School District.
Crab Landing invites the community to dine at the restaurant with school district and public officials on the last event of the year, Nov. 10, in support of education improvements. The dinner is sponsored by the Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of Commerce.
“The Chamber of Commerce is always happy to help our non-profits and schools with their events. We consulted with Crab Landing on this fundraiser and attended the first one. It was fabulous and we had a great time while helping our schools,” said Charise McHugh, CEO of the Half Moon Bay Coastside Chamber of Commerce.
“As a member of the Half Moon Bay community, it is paramount for us to give back and I believe it begins with our youth,” said Andrei Soen, owner of Crab Landing. “In my family, food is the love language, so this will be a great way for the community to enjoy each other’s company over a nice meal while also supporting our local youth.”
“Dining with the District” not only brings people together in a time of economic uncertainty but also helps raise funds for better educational opportunities. From the total proceeds raised by community support, Crab Landing will donate 15 percent to CEF. From there, the funds will trickle down to Hatch Elementary, El Granada Elementary, Farallone View Elementary, Kings Mountain Elementary, Cunha Intermediate and Half Moon Bay High.
“I went to Crab Landing to support the Dining with the District program … I love any program that helps support the local public schools. I always support the local businesses that support the schools and CEF’s efforts,” said Melissa Rey, CEF Director.

“Communal events are a critical part of CEF’s ability to provide ongoing, sustainable funding to meet classroom needs,” said Dr. Mike Bachicha, board director of CEF.
This year’s previous “Dining with the District” dates — Jan. 19, March 10, May 12, July 14 and Sept. 8 — generated more than $2,000 for CEF. CEF ensures Crab Landing’s efforts will directly benefit each school’s unique programs and needs.
“Dining with the District” boosts community involvement and helps build a solid education foundation for the future success of the local youth.
Crab Landing is located in Half Moon Bay, at the harbor. For more information, call the restaurant at 650-712-1288.
