Planning a Roadtrip? Useful websites
There are many websites providing all sorts of road trip information, from descriptions of people’s favorite trips to useful tools for planning the next trip.
On RoadTrip America’s website, www.roadtripamerica.com, I found a fuel cost calculator that was fun to use. After entering your trip length, vehicle fuel usage and fuel price, the cost of the trip is calculated pretty quickly. It includes the total fuel used and cost per mile of the trip.
This site also had an interesting comparison of the top automated road trip planning programs on the Web. Staff from RoadTrip America tested and rated six planning programs. So if you’re thinking about using an automated planning tool you might find some useful tips here.
If you have interest in following people who live a nomadic life, take a look at the Gadling travel blog, www.gadling.com. Life Nomadic with Tynan and Todd, at www.gadling.com/lifenomadic, follows the travels of this duo — who, in 2008, sold everything they owned and then moved from country to country, working to earn money along the way. This year Tynan and Todd are going around the globe again and blogging exclusively for Gadling. You can subscribe and get their posts directly. On March 11 they were discovering the wonders of Boquete, Panama.
Independent Traveler, at independenttraveler.com, has a Road Trip Center with tips on how to save gas, trip ideas including national parks and weekend getaways, and a collection of other tips and resources.
The site’s Rest Stop Survival Guide includes tips on healthy fast food. From Arby’s to Wendy’s, health-conscious travelers can find very detailed nutritional content. This was amazing to me and shows how much attitudes about health and food have changed.
So before you plan that road trip in your favorite vehicle this spring, let your fingers do the searching with the resources available on the Web.
