The Real Thing at Coastal Repertory Theatre in Half Moon Bay

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013

real thing

The Real Thing at Coastal Repertory Theatre in Half Moon Bay will be presented from March 29, /2013-April 20, 2013.

This play-within-a-play examines the adage that “life imitates art,” or is it the other way around? A compelling story of love, commitment and adultery leads us into a crisis-strewn relationship between an actress and a soldier imprisoned for an act of protest. Tom Stoppard, known for his exact use of language, has created a smart, sexually-charged stage piece examining the nature of honesty and reality.

The play focuses on the relationship between Henry and Annie, an actress who is part of a committee to free Brodie, a Scottish soldier imprisoned for burning a memorial wreath during a protest.

By Tom Stoppard

Directed by Tim Longo

Silent Film Event in Half Moon Bay

Monday, February 18th, 2013

sunrise

This Friday evening at 7:30 p.m., a Silent Film Event in Half Moon Bay will be hosted by the Coastside Film Society. This great silent film will be accompanied by Shauna Pickett-Gordon. The piano music accompanying the images of Sunrise will consist of music both written and improvised, both familiar and original. Running time is 110 minutes.

Pickett-Gordon said, “This is the fourth year we’ve done the event. The first three years were delightful, silly comedies, whereas this Friday’s film will be a big, dark melodrama. I’m having great fun concocting the score, as Sturm und Drang, conflict, and the eternal struggle between good and evil afford so many opportunities for musical expression. See the link for details on the film.

Do come! If I do say so myself, this is a very under-priced event at $8 for adults and $3 for children.

BTW, there will be one intermission. I’ll play for 45 minutes, we’ll all take a short break, and then back into the sweep of the silver screen for the second half of the film.”
