Pescadero Christmas Tree Lighting, Friday, Nov. 30.

The 16th annual Pescadero Christmas tree will be lighted at 7 p.m.  at 2020 Pescadero Creek Road, Pescadero.

This year, prior to the tree lighting, Johnny Appleseed will be on hand for mule rides down Stage Road. The local 4H Club will be be offering some homemade treats and pine cone Christmas trees for purchase.

As always, hot chocolate and cookies will be served by the “Wild Cats,” a South Coast Children’s Services Youth program. And Santa will be delivered by fire engine. The Pescadero Tree Lighting is sponsored by The Pescadero Arts and Fun Festival Committee. Join in community Christmas Caroling at the Pescadero Post Office.

Half Moon Bay Coastside Open Studios

Colony of Coastside Artists are opening their studios from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 17 and 18.

Nancy Wilder and Diane Burns will be showing their work at 420 Medio Avenue in the Miramar area just north of Half Moon Bay proper on the east side of Highway 1.

If you are looking for holiday gifts, there will be lots of items to choose from.

This is a good opportunity to visit several of the artist’s studios and get an early start on obtaining some very unique and special gifts.

 

 

Janet Periat: We’ll miss you!

I’ve been editing CoastViews for 4½ years now. Many things have changed over that time, but one thing has stayed constant: Janet Periat’s columns.

Of course, Janet predates me at CoastViews; she’s been writing for the magazine for 12 years. There have been some changes in what Janet writes; she used to sometimes write a “What Would Janet Do” advice column, which she hasn’t done recently. But as the editor, I knew I could count on Janet to submit her 1,000 words, on time, every month. She’s always been extremely easy to edit, too; I never needed to do much, and she’s always expressed appreciation of my small tweaks. (more…)

Coastside Hope Offers Free Tax Preparation for Low-Income Coastsiders

Coastside Hope is partnering with United Way again this year on the Earn it, Keep it, $ave it campaign.

Trained volunteer tax preparers help individuals and families claim their maximum benefit and refund. The program works with hundreds of community organizations and other free tax preparation providers such as Tax-Aid and AARP Tax-Aide to process 60,000 tax returns each year.

Downtown there’s the Sock Hop “Sneak Peak” at Coastal Rep to preview their upcoming 50s/60s girl group musical The Marvelous Wonderettes; award winning singer Wendy Waller & her Fine Band at Pasta Moon; Ray Olson at the HMB Sports Bar & Grill and we just heard that Rich Felix will be at San Benito House.

At the Harbor there’s Carlitos Harp at Crab Landing as well as the surf-jammin sounds of the Califuegos at HMB Brewing Company.

For jazz, there’s Brandon Robinson at Sam’s Chowder House, Walter Topper at Cetrella’s, and John Moriarty and Mark Williams at the Ritz. And Stevan Pasero brings classical/flamenco guitar to It’s Italia.
