Puente and the San Mateo County Public Health Department will be bringing a pilot program of cooking demonstrations at the Coastside Farmers’ Markets. Look for them the first week of every month for the rest of the season. Dishes will be created to feature five ingredients that are available at the markets and in season. The dishes will also take no more than five steps to prepare or assemble. (more…)
Started in February 2012 and modeled after other similar social events around the country, this café-type atmosphere supports families. Dementia has many symptoms and this safe space helps families and patients feel more at ease.
Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and an opportunity to socialize in a comfortable, non-judgemental atmosphere. Experts will be on hand to provide safe, appropriate activities, games, and advice.
Held at Coastside Adult Day health Center, 645 Correas St., Half Moon Bay. It is on the second to the last Wednesday of each month from 3-5 pm. All community members are welcome and can just drop in or RSVP to Sunshine at 650-726-5067 or sunshine.cadhc@gmail.com. Upcoming dates in 2012 are March 21, April 18, May 23 and June 20.
CADHC in Half Moon Bay keeps the frail, elderly and disabled as healthy, active and independent as possible, when advancing years or physical/mental conditions call for extra care and attention.
CADHC offers a daily program of activities and substantial health services operated by a team of professionals and program aides. Included is our Alzheimers Program and Family Caregiver Support Program. We work in cooperation with the participants, their caregivers and their personal physicians in an atmosphere that is both caring and supportive.
Services include nursing and personal care, medication monitoring, speech, occupational and physical therapy, social services, nutritious meals, fun activities, and door-to-door wheel chair assisted transportation.

A coastal trail that has been in the planning stages for 25 years was finally unveiled at a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. Freezing in state expenditures from bonds, led to delays.
Today, three miles south of Half Moon Bay, the Cowell-Purisima Trail stretches along three miles of bluff tops along the ocean. It was built through a partnership between the Peninsula Open Space Trust and California State Coastal Conservancy. (more…)
Tomorrow, July 20, 2011, Pescadero Grown! Offering locally produced food. Local non-profit organization, Puente de la Costa Sur is organizing the weekly market, which is a great service to South Coast residents.
Pescadero Grown! connects local farmers who are interested in selling their produce directly to the community, along with the local, small farms that offer weekly CSA (community supported agriculture) produce boxes.
This certified farmers market will be held 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursdays through November at 620 North Street (Pescadero Elementary School). (more…)
The New Leaf Market in Half Moon Bay has a whole raw section, featuring dozens of brands of fresh and packaged foods, including snacks. In the bakery, you can pick up a raw cheesecake from the Earth Café for dessert, and tabouli over in the deli. Chez Shea on Main Street isn’t a strictly raw food restaurant, but it’s got a few tasty raw vegetarian options.
Other sources are the Palmetto Organic Grocery in Pacifica, the Pacifica Farmers Market in Manor Plaza, and Phipps Country Store and Farm in Pescadero.
