by Barbara Masek— This blog will focus on the enjoyment of photography and the joy of living on the San Mateo County coast. The natural landscape is right at our doorstep to inspire us.

We’re going to be talking about enjoying the Half Moon Bay area coast and what, where and how to photograph along the way — how we learn to see, and ways to take better pictures. The experience of discovering what is in your backyard will reaffirm why you chose to live here in the first place!

It’s June. Why not feel like you’re on vacation on the coast? Pick up your camera, let’s go!

We are in an exciting time visually, with new photo technology, loads of interesting apps, and many ways to share photos. Our lives are shown in pictures and videos. Who knows what’s coming next? There will be more ways to conveniently integrate the visual into our personal, social lives.

Do you notice the subtle seasonal changes as you go about your day here? You know it’s early summer on the coast by the color of the flowers on the hills, the later sunset angles (did I say sun?), the natural landscape colors, and of course, more people visiting this side of the hill. Traffic that allows us to slow down, stay on foot and take in the vistas.

The weather is dramatic and ever-changing here — always exciting for a photographer! Enjoy the changing coastal views. Capture it with your smart phone, your camera, or your HD video. Share with friends & family on social media.

How entertaining, inspiring and easy is that? You’ll have fun and stay connected.

The economy has presented challenges encouraging us to find the simple enjoyments. Look around! You’d think you were in France’s Provence region with the heather and mountains, as you wind your way over the hill on Hwy. 92 How fortunate to know we are somewhere special.

Almost feels like vacation, doesn’t it? Do you recognize where this gorgeous field of poppies is on the coast? Hint: head towards Pescadero.
